press release
Fırın hosts Jinoos Misaghi’s solo exhibition Wandering Through an Abstract Situation from March 8 to May 18, 2025. The exhibition explores perception, reality, and the ways in which the human mind constructs meaning.
Born in Tehran and currently based in Eskişehir, the artist presents a series of acrylic paintings on canvas in various sizes, exhibited for the first time. Her works invites the viewer to engage in a visual wandering through a world in which certainty is absent. The paintings, layered in a fluid and fragmented manner, guide the viewer to explore how perception and context shape our understanding, and how the processes of remembering, observing, and interpreting remain fragile and subjective.
Her paintings engage in a dynamic interplay with perspective, intertwining the characteristics of Persian miniature painting with the principles of Western landscape traditions. This interplay allows the viewer’s gaze to move beyond a single directional path, instead navigating various trajectories and encountering a synthesis of multiple perspectives.
The multilayered structure presented by Jinoos Misaghi draws viewers into the process while moving beyond traditional storytelling methods. She adopts collage as both a conceptual and formal strategy, bringing together an expansive visual repertoire—from press photographs and social media images to advertisements and historical artworks. Isolated from their original contexts and reconfigured within a new spatial framework, these images create ruptures in meaning, offering endless possibilities for interpretation. Familiar elements coexist with fantastical components, resulting in an environment that is neither a direct representation of the real world nor entirely imaginary. The viewer, caught within this abstract state, is prompted to reflect on the nature of reality, narrative, and representation.
Jinoos Misaghi’s third solo exhibition, Wandering Through an Abstract Situation, is realized with the support of the SAHA Sustainability Fund.
